“Catherine, look at me” he demanded but I didn’t look.
“Baby, look at me,” he softly whispered and lifted my chin to his face. He was not angry. He gave me a soft smile and that made me relax.
“You can go home but…I hope you…forgive me…for my reckless behaviour,” he stuttered and frowned, worry etched in his handsome face.
“I forgive you, Alexander” I smiled at him, “You don’t need to worry, it’s just about my college,” I assured him. He smiled in return.
That night we both slept in peace at our separate room.
The next morning, Alexander drove me to my granny’s home. He returned my mobile and I came to know that my granny was still in Rhode Island with my Aunt.
He stood in front of my porch, shifting from one foot to another. His hands were tugged inside his pockets. He looked uncomfortable and worried like I was going to leave him forever.
I opened the front door and stopped abruptly. I walked to his side and pulled him down to my height by his collar and crashed my lips with his.
He was caught off guard but he started to kiss me once he realized what I was doing. His arms snaked around my middle and pulled me off the ground which made me squeal. I feel him smile against my lips.
I circled my arms around his neck and we both pulled away. We both were breathing heavily.
He rested his forehead against mine. He was grinning like a little boy and I started to smile at him. He placed me gently on my feet still keeping his arms around my middle.
“Now, you can go home without pouting” I teased. He chuckled at me and kissed my cheeks.
“You made my day, Sweet cheeks and call me if you need anything,” he gazed at me lovingly.
“Okay,”
He left the place and I made way into my granny’s home. I unpacked my duffel bag and took a nap.
The next morning I went to my university in my white Toyota. When I was about to move out of the parking lot a voice startled me.
“Shorty!” It was Paul. He was grinning at me like a Cheshire cat with open arms. His smile was so contagious and I started to smile at him and ran to his side. I threw myself on his arms and hugged him so tight.
“I missed you, idiot” I muffled against his chest. I missed my best friend. He was protective of me like an older brother whom I never had.
“I never expected that I would say this but I missed your annoying ass,” he chuckled and ruffled my hair.
“Hey, you’re messing my hair” I frowned at him with disapproval and fixed my hair with my fingers. He laughed at me and slapped the back of my shoulders, which made me stumble forward but he stabled my wobbling legs by placing his arms around my shoulders.
“Sorry,” he apologized rubbing the nape of his neck with an awkward smile. I swore this guy forgets that I was a girl sometimes.
The day went by, with too many works and assignments which made me groan in frustration. How in the hell was I supposed to complete this?
The biggest shock of the day was Chloe’s break up with Paul. It happened two weeks ago when I was not here and he didn’t say a word about it. I know Paul was playful, carefree and he was such a tease but he loved her so damn much.
Rachel filled me with all the information and I came to know that she dumped him for Maxwell, who was from a well off family in America. He was also a senior and he takes business with Paul.
I couldn’t imagine how hard Paul was hurting inside to put a happy façade in front of people. He was a nice guy, he makes people laugh and she must be a fool to dump him.
I called his mobile and he picked my call on the third ring, “Paul…can we meet somewhere?”
“I take it that you know about my break up,” his voice broke. I heard some music behind him like he was in a club or a bar.
“Paul, I’m so sorry” my heart ached for my best friend. He didn’t deserve this pain.
“Listen, shorty, you don’t need to apologize, it’s not your fault and I don’t want to talk about it. I have to go, bye” he hanged up. I decided to give him some time to open up to me.
I spent my evening, having dinner with Alexander, instantly forgetting about my worries.
The rest of the week passed in a blur with my assignments and it was almost nine ’O clock now. I heard some rustling outside my house like someone was watching me. My heart started to pound so fast. I already locked all the doors and windows but something was off.
